As we prepare for another exciting Friday under the lights, we have asked Minnesota high school students to share a game preview or season recap on their football team.
Jack Thompson
Rosemount
This game will test the theory that defense wins championships. Rosemount has one of the best defenses in the state, only allowing 10 points or fewer in 10 of 12 games against arguably the toughest schedule in the state. Rosemount had to face Lakeville South, Prior lake, Centennial, Wayzata and Eden Prairie. This defense is full of players who have the ability to make a play.
Rosemount has one final hurdle against a tough Maple Grove team. The game should be a great match up with some of the best talent in the state on display. Maple Grove has an electric offense that has scored 35 or more points in 7 of their 12 games. It’ll be exciting to watch Maple Grove's mighty offense take on Rosemount’s dominating defense.
Offensively, Rosemount is a heavy run team and hasn't thrown the ball much all season. In last week's game, Rosemount rushed for 240 yards with 0 passing attempts. With their 3 headed backfield and wall of an offensive line, the Irish have relied on both their run game and defense to win games.
This will be a fantastic game with both teams fighting to win a state championship, as Maple Grove has never won a championship and Rosemount has not won since 1981. Expect big crowds for both teams at U.S. Bank Stadium as these two teams battle it out for their school and communities.
