As we prepare for another exciting Friday under the lights, we have asked Minnesota high school students to share a game preview or season recap on their football team.

The Crimson are fighting for first in the state title as Maple Grove prepares to return to the U.S. Bank Stadium on Dec. 2 against Rosemount in the 6A state championship game. With both teams entering the prep bowl undefeated (12-0), the match is guaranteed to provide the intense camaraderie and fiery roars of the audience that every football game strives for.
Inside the halls of Maple Grove Senior High, conversations are littered with anticipation for the championship game— MG’s second consecutive prep bowl. Though playing all twenty-six games over two years is not unheard of, Maple Grove’s senior class of 2023 has played both seasons to their fullest potential, and Head Football Coach, Lombardi, shares the bittersweet spirit the boys hold as they ramp up to the pep bowl.
“There's a big spirit of family among all of this because for a lot of young men, this is the last time they’ll be able to do this with each other,” he explains.
High school is the end of the line for most football players, but the Crimson are only more determined to bring home the trophy and finish the season strong with “the family that is the football team.”
Each week, we ask students to publish stories about their high school's football game on social media using the tag #studentsonthesidelines.
